Analytics and why it’s so important

When marketing your business online, it’s important for you to understand where your customers are coming from and which parts of your marketing campaigns are working.

Essentially by finding the places where your money is being well spent and bringing in the most return, will allow you to increase the spend in the areas that are seeing the best results and cutting out those that aren’t.

The easiest way to do this is through the use of a good piece of analytics software.

These tools are built to monitor your website visitors and give you details of where they came from (search engines, social media sites, other websites) and what they did whilst on your website.

Combine these with some well planned goal tracking and you’re pretty much sorted when it comes to knowing what is working and what isn’t.

My recommendation – Google Analytics

Google analytics is by far the most popular piece of analytics software out there at the moment and that’s no real surprise giving that google are the powerhouse of all things internet.

Google Analytics is free to use and only requires you to have a google account, so if you already use gmail or any other google services, then you’re probably already half way there.

Visit http://analytics.google.com and sign in with your details. You’ll then be walked through the steps to add your website into your account and then be presented with a tracking code.

Install this code in your website or get in touch with your website wizard and get them to do it for you.

Soon you’ll begin to see all sorts of data about your visitors right down to the amount of time they spent on the website and which pages they were looking at. It’s quite creepy when you think about it, but the power behind it is incredible for a business.

If you’re struggling to figure out how to add analytics to your website, then why not hire me to do it for you? I’ll even walk you through all the basics of understanding just how powerful it can be for you too.
